A Taste of Mindfulness...
Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment, on purpose and without judgement. Contrary to popular belief, Mindfulness meditation is actually not about emptying your mind of thoughts. Nor is it yet another task you have to do to be a better version of yourself.
It is the ability to observe your thoughts and feelings without being swept away by them or looking for ways to escape them.
It is the capacity to take skillful actions to problem-solve when needed, but without the toxic and non-skillful deluge of self-criticism and reproach that you're not doing enough, not good enough, not trying hard enough.
Mindfulness education is learning how to cultivate these skills. The curriculum is called MBSR - Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, developed by Jon Kabat Zinn at the University of Massachussetts school of Medicine. Research has shown this curriculum to deliver enormous positive outcomes to patients and doctors not only via how they relate to their stressors and their overall resilience, but also shocking improvements in symptoms of anxiety and depression, high blood pressure, chronic pain, as well as their ability to cope with and navigate severe illnesses like cancer.
As I earn my MBSR teaching certification at Brown University's School of Professional Studies, I am offering FREE Introductory to Mindfulness courses.
What will you gain from attending an Introductory course? You will learn the foundational elements of a Mindfulness practice, which over time allow you to develop skills such as:
-
Experiencing emotions without becoming hijacked by them.
-
Be able to hit the pause button when you are feeling stressed.
-
Have greater mental and emotional clarity about issues when they arise.
-
At the end of the class, you will have in your possession tangible ways to continue your practice at home.
